Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father's death the family of Ford, they were looked after by her grandmother, mom and godparents. When she was a young girl she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to word associations. Ford began performing in her teens, and was an actor in the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a few weeks, she realized it was not suitable for her. Ford applied instead to the Central School of Speech and Drama and finally won a position on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford did not finish her studies in 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her first television appearance in a show called Surgical Spirit. At that moment, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was a part of such TV shows such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London Burning. Also, she was a regular performer at the theater, ultimately joining the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedies that were added to her show in the year 1996.
